On the coast of Karnataka near the Sharavati river stands the ancient Idagunji temple, its central icon dating back more than a thousand years, and its origin tied to a sage's determined search for a way past constant obstacles.

A Sacrifice Repeatedly Disturbed

As tradition tells it, the sage Valakhilya, undertaking sacred rites in the forest by the Sharavati, found his rituals repeatedly disturbed by obstacles he could not overcome on his own, and turned to the sage Narada for counsel on how to proceed.

Advice That Changed Everything

Narada's counsel was direct: seek the blessing of Shree Ganesh, remover of obstacles, before attempting the rites again. Through the devotion of the assembled sages, Shree Ganesh consented to remain at that very site, ensuring the sacrifice could finally proceed undisturbed.

What Devotees Seek

The temple that grew up around this consent, now among Karnataka's most visited Ganesha shrines, continues to draw devotees seeking exactly what Valakhilya once sought — a clear, unobstructed path forward for work that matters.
