Continuing directly from Ravana's journey with the Atmalinga, the story of Gokarna turns on the timely appearance of a young Brahmin boy at the shore — Shree Ganesh, once again taking on a humble disguise to protect the world from an outcome it could not survive.

An Evening Ritual, and a Dilemma

As Ravana neared Gokarna, the sky was made to darken as if evening had come, and Ravana, bound by his own religious discipline, felt obligated to pause for his evening rites — but could not do so while holding the sacred, ground-fixing Atmalinga in his hands.

A Boy Willing to Help

Shree Ganesh, in the form of this young boy, offered to hold the Atmalinga while Ravana completed his rites, agreeing to call out three times and, if unanswered, to set it down. True to the pattern of these stories, the calls went unanswered in time, and the Atmalinga touched the earth at Gokarna, fixed there forever exactly as Shiva's condition had foretold.

What Devotees Seek

Devotees see in this story a reminder that even the mightiest ambitions can turn on a single unguarded moment, and that Shree Ganesh's quiet interventions often serve a far greater purpose than they first appear to.
